Community Responses to Crime

Communities have a broad range of tools at their disposal that can be used to respond to crime. To a certain extent, how police, courts, and corrections respond to crime can be influenced by public opinion and political action.

For this assignment, select one of the conflict perspectives (Marxist criminology, peacemaking, feminist, convict, etc.) and then, in a 1-2 page paper, respond to the following questions:

  • How would the conflict perspective you chose affect how the police, courts, or corrections respond to crime?
  • How do you believe these change would affect society and crime overall?
  • What would be the challenges of making the types of changes you’re proposing?
