Discussion

This week you have read about psychological factors related to well-being and how those factors relate to physical and cognitive health. Next week you will read about the social and cultural lives of older adults.

As a developmental psychologist, our hallmark method used to examine change over time is the longitudinal study in which the same people are studied over the span of many years, and we record what changes occur.

For this discussion you will have the opportunity to learn about the correlates of happiness from a 75-year examination of adult development. Before you begin your discussion this week, take a few minutes to watch What Makes a Good Life? Lessons from the Longest Study on Happiness and Older People are Happier. If you want to dig a bit deeper, you can review the transcripts for the first and second TED talks.

Based on what you read this week, and learned from this discussion, what factors are essential for health and happiness? How do those factors contradict with things prioritized during young and middle adulthood? What challenges are there to maximizing those factors for older adults?

Note: min 500 words. I’ll send you thing which I have wrote so far, you can use it or improve it with your ideas.
