Instructions: Once you have chosen a topic, begin researching it so you can diagnose how that institution or policy creates racially unequal outcomes. When doing your research, your work will be stronger if you use a broad variety of sources, including policy reports, government documents, academic articles or books, newspapers, etc. At least one source must be peer-reviewed academic article and at least one source must be a governmental document (from a ‘.gov’ website). For your final papers, you will need to include a works cited page (in MLA format) with at least five sources. The end result of this project will be a double-spaced page essay no less than five pages that describes and analyzes your findings. In addition to in-text citations and a works cited page, essays should contain the following four ingredients:

· An introduction that summarizes the issue and your approach to it, explains its importance to society, and presents a thesis statement summarizing your argument

· A description of the topic that provides evidence for what is actually happening

· An analysis of your evidence that uses at least three ideas from course readings and/or lectures to support an argument about how this topic creates racially biased outcomes

· A conclusion that briefly summarizes what you have written and communicates ideas for addressing the issue and consequences for ignoring it
