DNPs are the highest level of prepared nurses who continue to practice the nursing role in clinical settings. PhDs in nursing is still a terminal degree in nursing, but focuses on research to develop policies and procedures based off of evidence findings. The degree programs a quite different, a DNP requires practicum hours and a capstone project that identifies a problem in healthcare and purposes and evidence based solution. A PhD program involves conducting a research project including doing a dissertation with possible teaching.
