Please discuss 1 strategy to avoid barriers in your healthcare settings to improving quality in nursing informatics.

Changes in healthcare delivery are becoming highly dependent on “high tech” use to prevent barriers for providing quality patient care. Today nurses are becoming more familiar with informatic systems used to managing, interpret, and communicate sensitive patient information that is transcribe between healthcare providers (Williams, 2016). The continuously growing field of informatics is of great benefit to healthcare staff at all levels. Many healthcare organizations rely on electronic medical records to manage and protect personal information. The use of EMR systems makes it easier and safer to manage and store patient information. Implementation of these electronic systems no longer require patients to summarize their medical past amid the stress of emergency situations (Kumar & Aldrich, 2018). Physicians can locate essential health information at the click of a button.

Additional use of record keeping devices within healthcare are tools such as tele-monitors, glucometers, and charting applications. The use of healthcare informatics is not only prevalent in the clinical setting but also in the home health setting (Kumar & Aldrich, 2018). In our society, communication comes in a multitude of applications: verbal, physical, and now electronic. It is crucial for nurses to utilize these information systems to aid their work and minimize barriers that impact the quality of care provided. Essential V, Informatics and Healthcare Technologies: recognizes that the master’s-prepared nurse uses patient-care technologies to deliver and enhance care and uses communication technologies to integrate and coordinate care (AACN, 2011). These essential provides nurses with the technologic essentials for providing high and safety quality care.
