1) Fix a clothespin (can also use something similar like the clip used to re-close an open bag of chips) to a baby food jar (or something similar – big enough to support the clothespin) with two rubber bands so the jaws point up.

2) Wedge the clothespin wide open with another half clothespin tied to a trip thread.

3) Put this next to a baby food jar lid (or next to a plastic lid from a 64 oz. juice bottle, with a quarter taped to the lid) in an open area on the floor. Pull the thread with a quick flick of your wrist. Use a meter stick to measure the distance the objects travel. In the Data Table below, record your data on distance, time, and the mass of the lid; then do the calculations.
