history questions

1. Takaki Part Three, chapters 9-13 (pp. 209-335) Please write two discussion questions for each chapter in Part Three (Transitions) of Takaki’s A Different Mirror. I am not looking for factual questions but rather open-ended analytical questions that ask about Takaki’s larger themes and arguments–the kind you would get on a midterm or final exam. Really think about what his argument for each chapter is as you come up with the question(s) for that chapter. In fact, I hope to use some of your questions for that purpose (maybe somewhat modified).

2. Dubois: What was W.E.B. Dubois’ position in 1903 on how to address the problems he observed for African-Americans in the South? How was he in dialogue with Washington? Why do you think they disagreed?

. Make sure to address all parts of the question. 2 paragraphs or at least 10 sentences is a safe barometer for question #2. I need 4 paragraphs in total for question #2. I need two paragraphs, and another 2 paragraphs but different answer on the same question.
