By this time, you have read Chapter 9 Food and Agriculture pgs. 306-344 and Chapter 10Development pgs.348-379 and Chapter 11 Industry and Energy pgs. 348-379 in the textbook and would have reviewed the posted lectures on these topics, so let’s reflect on some of the topics you have been reading about by completing this assignment. Please review the submission procedures below.

From chapter 9: The region of the Sahel in Sub-Sahara Africa is one where nations such as Sudan, Chad, and neighboring Ethiopia suffer from undernourishment, desertification, and food security issues. Define these terms: undernourishment, desertification, and food security and describe how and why these factors intersect in the Sahelian landscape.

From chapter 10: Review the major economic, social, and demographic characteristics that contribute to a country’s level of development, illustrate with examples from the lectures and textbook. You may illustrate by describing the components of the Human Development Index.

From Chapter 11: Distinguish between passive and active solar energy systems. What factors contribute to the U.S. delay in switching to alternative energy resources like solar energy when compared to other regions of the world such as Europe?
