Watch the movie “Remember the Titans” then write an integration paper showing how group development theory explains the events/characters of the movie.

 

  • You will compare the movie with what we will study in class about Tuckman’s group development theory.
  • You will organize your essay according to theory or case (see Coursepack), using principles from group development theory to analyze examples from the movie.

I expect that you will pay attention to format and documentation and that your grammar will be clean. This paper should include a short introduction with a thesis, a short summary of the case, and a detailed analysis using integration techniques. I expect lots of direct quotations and the use of key words. You will have quotations from the document and website on group development theory as well as specific examples from the movie.

 

NOTE:  If you use ANY sources for the summary or other parts of the paper, they must be included in the reference page and any paraphrases must have APA in the text!

 

A good integration paper will include:

  1. Introduction: introduce the theory or concepts in a general way, list the parts/components of the theory to be discussed, and include a thesis statement explaining what you will integrate (the theory and the situation).
  2. Background (Summary of the movie)

Giving the setting (where & when), introducing main characters (e.g. their names, characteristics, life environment, and so on..) describing main events, as well as main idea or theme.

  1. 3~4 body paragraphs

Organize the essay by case (characters or events) or by theory, depending on the focus you chose for your thesis. Use quotations/paraphrases from the group development theory resources and specific examples from the movie

  1. Conclusion
  • Restate your thesis and any conclusions you have drawn from the integration
  1. Reference page—include movie, theory documents, website used for summary information
